I fell into coworking by accident. I was job hunting, researching local companies that seemed interesting, and found Spark Coworking, a business doing something I'd never heard of. The community manager job description read like someone had written it about me. I applied, got the job, and stayed eight years.

In that time, Spark grew from one location in Baltimore to five across four states. I built the programs members planned their weeks around, like Founder Family Dinners and Headshot Happy Hour. I trained the community managers who ran each location, and we held 90%+ occupancy without leaning on discounts. Members told their friends “you need to work here,” and they meant it. The lesson that stuck with me: belonging is designed, not discounted.

Here's what I learned about launches. Most spaces aren't short on vision. They have the architect, the designer and the gorgeous renderings. What's missing is someone who has actually run the place, who knows the tour script matters as much as the finishes and that a community manager needs a plan before opening day, not after.

So that's the seat I take. I'm a brand person and an operations person, which, it turns out, is a rare combination. I build the pricing and the playlist. The SOPs and the welcome ritual. Systems can hold softness.

I learned this work in Baltimore, and these days I'm based in Augusta, GA. My husband is in the Air Force, so home moves every few years. Every move teaches me again what makes a place feel like yours on day one. Hune works with founders across the country, and I'm the one who answers your emails.
